The world I’m from is cruel and painful. Trampling on common folk where they don’t know what will happen in their day to day. I’m not sure what’s worse, the World Government’s actions ad inactions, or the pirates who believe they’re above the rules.
I know there’s good people out there, I know that change is slow and painful, but I couldn’t stand hearing from my fans their fear and worries.
I know my actions were extreme though.

I dare say most worlds are cruel and painful, at least to some. I have yet to find a place where there was not at least some power imbalance and I admit I am just as guilty of participating in those sorts of games.

I believe there is always both good and evil, but that most people, it turns out, are an interesting mix of both. We have all made mistakes, but, as many have said to me, it matters more that you change and learn from your mistakes. The best people can do wrong and the worst can do better.
I feel I should say the same to you. I do hope we become good friends though.

I am not sure. All I can say is that it is how things tend to be. It’s as if as soon as a species becomes sentient, they find ways to oppress some. I like to think it does not need to be that way, but have yet to see an example of it.

It is unfortunate. It would certainly be preferable if people could realize how much better things could be if there were no oppressors at all. If those who oppress could see the error of their ways, but I have lived a long time and not seen any real evidence of it. It seems like for every person who wants to help others, there is one who only thinks of themselves.
That does not mean we should not try to improve things. Just because something has not happened yet, does not mean it is impossible. Unfortunately, these things are never easy.

You’re right, there will always be selfish people, but that doesn’t mean they should be the majority.
I guess we just need to keep working to change it.

I like to think that anything is possible, in time, but I'm also not an overly optimistic person. I do hope so though.
No, they should not be the majority, but they often are. But yes, all we can do is try. Perhaps, with enough people like you, it will actually happen.

It just seems like you are still optimistic and willing to try, even after a trying start to your life. I wish I had known you when I was younger. I think you might have inspired me to be better.
I do hope I can manage to inspire good things from you. That isn't something I've always thought myself capable of, nor did I really aspire to it, but much in my life has changed since then. I expect that if I am not managing you will be willing to tell me so though.
It is nice to find others with things in common. I spent a lot of my life feeling like an outcast, like I didn't truly belong. There is much I do not appreciate about this place, but finding people like you, who have had some similar experiences, has been rather nice.

He never really talks about times when he was a kid.
I don’t really know much about his past, just that we share a common story with how we came to be together. Shanks has always been pretty guarded, unfortunately.
