NAME: Uta
AGE: 21
CANON: One Piece.
CANON POINT: Post Film: Red.

SUITABILITY: Uta meets the minimum age requirement as she is 21. She grew up around pirates, so sex isn’t a new concept to her, however she has been sheltered for the past 11 years on an island with no one but her mentor. It’s still a foreign concept to her despite hearing about it. Her interactions with the world at large are new, only able to use the video transponder snails in the last few years for communication and to perform. She longs to make those connections again, wants to actually have relationships she lost when she was left behind.

She is also susceptible to corruption. Her own history with Tot Musica and the abandonment issues she experiences from her father leaving her behind run deep. She has an intense sense of loneliness stemming from this event, and her hatred of pirates comes from learning a lie of how she was left behind. Even knowing the truth behind the Elegia incident, she still goes on to hold grudges and does not hesitate to make those emotions known. She almost went as far as to try and kill her friend, Luffy (but luckily did not due to Shank’s influence). In the end, she will make choices that would appear to benefit the whole while also being selfish if it gets her what she wants, which is attention and understanding. While things were righted in the end, there’s still a level of guilt she will carry which may also influence her actions.

HISTORY: Uta’s birth is overall a mystery, and even the circumstances of her adoption by the Red Haired pirates had more questions than answers. When she was two, her home town was attacked by pirates, resulting in the death of her parents. It’s unknown how she ended up in a treasure chest, but she was brought aboard by the attacking pirates. Those pirates subsequently ran into the Red Haired pirates and were defeated. Shanks found her inside the chest, and with no way to find her family, he believed it was fate (as his circumstances were quite similar with the Roger pirates) and adopted the girl.

She grew up on the seas, her love of music building as she stepped in to become the musician of the crew. Her travels brought her to Foosha Village, where she befriended Monkey D. Luffy, making him her rival whenever they ended up playing games together. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and the Red Haired pirates ended up on what she would call her home for many years to come, Elegia. There she was started an apprenticeship with Elegia’s king, Gordon, and the people of the country recognized her talent, calling her a prodigy. This also cause the demon Tot Musica, sealed away beneath Elegia, to recognize her talent as well, gifting her the sheet music to summon him without her knowing. Not knowing what tragedy would befall, she sang the music, and brought the demon into the real world, only stopping its destruction when she exhausted herself. Gordon, and the Red Haired Pirates were the only survivors of the incident.

So Shanks left her on the island, making her believe that he was the reason Elegia fell. She woke, only to see her family leaving, abandoning her on the island with her mentor. Isolated for the next 11 years, she learned the truth, but her anger for her father and pirates persisted. She honed her skills, composing music and finally setting up several transponder snails to start performing on video for the world. Her break out song, New Genesis, earned her the title of diva, her popularity rising quickly. As she spoke to her fans, she learned of their grief, their circumstances when it comes to the reality of the world where pirates flourished. She took their wishes to listen to her music forever literally, and started to develop a plan to bring as many people into the Sing-Sing world as possible with the help of her Devil Fruit.

Her first and only live performance in front of a crowd was broadcast across the world with the help of transponder snails, and once she sang her hit song? Millions of people were drawn into the Sing-Sing World. She, on the other hand can exist in either but she intended to die to keep everyone safe and happy in the new world.

She slowly starts to lose her mind and footing with the hundreds of people attending her performance, her anger coming to the forefront as she’s both attacked by pirates, marines, and friends alike. She wants a world where no one has to fight or starve or pick a side, and while this is an admirable goal, the way she’s going about it is quite terrible. Even this is pointed out to her but her rage boils to a point where she summons Tot Musica once more, threatening with burning both worlds down to create her new one.

Her plans are ultimately foiled by the Straw Hat Pirates and the Red Haired Pirates. Despite her anger at her father for leaving her behind, she restores the souls those listening and watching her broadcast through song. Ultimately her fate is unknown as Shanks brings her back on board the Red Force.

ABILITIES: Uta is one of the many Devil Fruit users found in One Piece. She ate the Sing-Sing fruit when she was young, which allows her to pull people’s consciousness into an alternate reality, leaving them asleep in their bodies outside in the real world. Within this world, she’s all powerful, allowing her to create things on a whim like food or armor for battle.

Despite having the fruit, she’s a skilled vocalist, her voice being described as otherworldly. Uta is quite knowledgeable about music theory, as well as a skilled lyricist and composer. She has written all of her popular works herself.

She is not skilled in combat. While she is a dexterous dancer, her stamina keeps her from performing for too long. She uses her Devil Fruit to compensate for her lack of stamina, and despite this, she still finds herself getting tired after only a few songs. In the movie, he combats this by consuming deadly wakeshrooms to keep herself awake.

Finally, she has the ability to summon Tot Musica. This is a special piece of music written by the previous user of the Sing-Sing Fruit that summons the demon lord to fight for her. This can cause mass destruction, however in this case it will be Last Resort only for events that can call for it. She will not use is unless it’s absolutely necessary.

VICES: Naivety; for the last 11 years she’s been stranded on an island devoid of people. Her world view was small and at times the vast nature of what lay beyond became incomprehensible. Even as she spoke to people through the transponder snails, its clear that she doesn’t have the same world experience as she once did only learning of Emperor of the Sea Big Mom (Charlotte Linlin) and one of the seven warlords, Donquixote Doflamingo through their wanted posters. Even then, she was more focused on their fashion sense rather than who they were in relation to the world. She wants to learn but there’s a lot of it. It will likely get her taken advantage of despite everything.

Rage; Her anger is a building one. One that rises over the course of years before she finally lets it all out. She spent 11 years learning of the atrocities committed by pirates and marines against ordinary people, and harboring that deep within her. She holds on to her pain and misery from her father leaving her behind on Elegia, ready to lash out with overwhelming destruction when he prevents her from killing one of her friends (her enemy at the time though). She may be kind but cross her and she will hold a grudge for years.

VIRTUES: Kind; Despite her anger and loneliness, she is an incredibly kind woman. She loves the people she talks to, enjoys getting to know some of her fans while also wishing more could be done for them. Her entire plan to bring everyone to the Sing-Sing World hinged on the idea she could take everyone’s pain away and create a place where there were no power imbalances. She cares deeply, opening her heart to those around her to build trust and understanding.

Empathetic; As she is kind, she is also empathetic to the plight of ordinary people. Her heart breaks knowing that pirates like her, like her father have caused so much hurt in the world. How the Marines and World Government are just as bad if not worse with how they treat people “beneath” them. She cares a lot, and it shows with how she treats her fans during her concerts. She actively wants to support them, uplift them, and be a person that can be relied upon. She want to use her status as an icon to help rather than for gain.

SUIT REQUESTS: Heart; Uta is emotional, all her actions throughout her life are rooted in emotion. It would not be strange for her to have a suit tied to it where it pushes her to extremes if she fails to meet its demands. She would need to overcome letting emotion rule her completely, as she is quite passionate whether it’s good or bad. She needs something to help reign it in at times because she acts on emotion, rather than logic most of the time.

Diamond; Uta has no stamina, relying on her Devil Fruit abilities heavily. Her performances can exhaust her, and she cannot fight to save her life. Having something that could increase her stamina would be great for her at first! It’s the rest of it that could be interesting to play out. It’s highly likely she is a virgin, her focus has been on her music for 11 years and not much else. No one but her mentor Gordon lived on Elegia after the destruction by TOT Musica so when would she have done it? So experiencing these increased desires would be both confusing and a curious thing.
